Agariya Heet Rakshak Manch is an organization working with traditional salt farmers, (locally known as Agariya) of Gujarat. It was formed way back in 2003. It aims at empowering Agariya community so that they live dignified life. AHRM facilitates effective implementation of government programmes meant for welfare and development of Agariya.

AHRM Provides platform for Agariya to come together to support each other to develop collective understand and take collective steps for community development.

AHRM is member of state empowered committee member which is meant for welfare of Agariya and development of salt industry.

AHRM is directly connected with approximately 6000 Agariya famileis in Little Rann of Kutch and also in coastal areas of Bhavnagar and Amreli district.

Every year more than 8000 Agariya families migrate to Little Rann of Kutch or to coastal areas for salt farming.

Agariyas get only 25 to 30 paisa for 1 kg of salt, where as salt is sold @Rs.20/kg in market.

Little Rann of Kutch where more than 6000 families reside every year for 8 months, is 5000 sq. km wide mud desert but treated as Survey no ZERO. It is also Wild ass Sanctuary.

Agariyas live in very harsh environment with temeprature variation from 2 degree to 50 degree celcius.

Ensuring basic services like water supply health, education also becomes huge challenge.

What We Do

We support Rann Shalas (Desert Schools) so that children who migrate with their parents to salt works get quality education. We have also digital learning to help children learn with fun.

We co-ordinate with government so that qualitative health services reach to Agariya at worksite.

Support Agariya community in Little Rann in their efforts for getting their traditional seasonal User Rights of Salt farming being recognized.

Also provide support for strengthening their livelihood also facilitate diversification of livelihood as required by community.

  • Support health camps with medicines.
  • Support Rann Shalas by conducting creative workshops with children.

  • Conduct Carrier guidance workshop for youth in Agariya community.
  • Support field fellows for their travel in Rann areas and a monthly remuneration cost.
  • Support single women in Agariya community with need based support.
  • Help us to have effective dialogue with government so that government qualitative services reaches to Agariyas.
  • Spread a word about CRYSTAL SALT, one of the oldest hand made salt.
  • Write to government for getting Support Price for SALT.
  • Write to government to purchase salt from Agariyas directly.
