Water Scarcity is one burning issue for Agariya community. There is abundant water in LRK or along the coast, but it is all salty, and cant be used for drinking for daily use purpose. Thus Agariyas totally depend on external sources and water supply facility. Earlier it was totally through private tankers, and every agariya family had to pay 6 to 8 thousand per season for purchasing water.
Since 2008, government is supplying either by pipe line (in some of the places) or through water tankers free of any cost. This was another breakthrough AHRM could get by having effective dialogue and representation at state level.
Government allocates approximately 2 crore rupees per year for water supply to Agariya areas. However, quality of water along the periphery of LRK or along the coast is poor. Also areas being vast, there are issues with frequency at which water is supplied. following note submitted to government recently which gives details of problem and what needs to be done.
